Edith Piaf Remembered in Song & Story with Lois Morton

Sunday, December 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Lois Morton, who holds a doctorate in education, provides a lecture/cabaret show. Lois takes you on the musical path that was Edith’s tragic, but fantastic life -- from the back streets of Paris to the concert halls of the world. It juxtaposes the learning of new information with the nostalgia of familiar songs sung in English and French. These programs are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Govenor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.

Meet Long Beach Native, Jewish Food Superstar, and Cookbook Author Liz Alpern

Monday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m.
Liz will discuss and answer questions about her retro-revolutionary new cookbook, The Gefilte Manifesto: New Recipes for Old World Jewish Foods. A graduate of McGill University (BA) and Baruch College (MBA), Liz is co-owner of The Gefilteria, purveyors of artisanal gefilte fish and other re-imagined (and oft-forgotten) central and eastern European foods. She has worked for Jewish food doyenne Joan Nathan, taught at both the International Culinary Center and Brandeis University, and was recently named (with Bob Dylan, Ivanka Trump, Natalie Portman, et al) to the Forward50, the Daily Forward’s annual list of 50 Jews who have impacted American life. Friends of the LBPL will be there to sell books.

  The Queens Cartoonists in Concert

Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 p.m.
The Queen’s Cartoonists put on a full show of music from classic and modern cartoons. Represented are genres such as early Disney (“The Skeleton Dance”), classic Warner Brothers (“The Rabbit of Seville”, “What’s Opera, Doc?”), cult classics (“Bambi Meets Godzilla”), and more modern cartoons like “The Simpsons”. Featured composers include Raymond Scott, Carl Stalling, Danny Elfman, Alf Clausen, John Williams and countless adaptations of classical favorites! The music runs the gamut from lightning fast swing arrangements to comedy numbers. Tying this diverse and challenging repertoire together are stories and anecdotes involving the cartoons and their composers. The six cats of the
band are on a musical mission of equal parts music preservation, education, and performance. The Queen’s Cartoonists tap into the rich tradition of cartoon music to bring you a fun, crossgenerational concert experience to any and all who will listen! Bring the whole family!
These programs are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the
Arts with the support of Govenor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
