Chick Naming Contest!

On Tuesday, April 13th Miss Tanya drove to the Suffolk County Farm & Education Center opens in a new window in Yaphank to pick up fertilized chicken eggs for the third year in partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension's opens in a new window Incubation and Embryology Project opens in a new window. It takes 21 days for a chicken egg to hatch, so we are hoping to see chicks beginning Monday, May 3rd.
 
As in previous years, we will be living streaming the hatching on the library's YouTube opens in a new window page.
 
The Youth Services Department is also holding its 3rd Chicken Naming Contest. All submissions can be sent to Miss Tanya at tsuarezmatos@longbeachlibrary.org. The winners will be chosen by a vote amongst the Youth Services Department staff and will have their name featured on the chick's hatch certificate and the library's website.
