How do I apply for a library card?

Any resident, 13 years of age or older, who lives, works, or owns a business in the Long Beach School District, is eligible for a library card.  Any resident who is under 13 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian present to obtain a card.

One proof of residency, ownership of property, or ownership of a business is required to obtain a library card and the documentation provided must include the person’s name and street address.

Accepted proofs of residency, ownership of property, or ownership of a business include:

  • New York State driver’s license
  • New York State non-driver’s photo ID
  • New York State automobile registration or car insurance
  • Current lease agreement on official form or letterhead
  • Current homeowner’s tax receipt
  • Property deed
  • Current bill (gas, electric, cable, credit card)
  • Bank statement, paystub, or paycheck
  • Other official documents (school, government)

To obtain a child’s card, the parent or guardian must show one of the above documents (for him/herself) plus one official document with the child’s name (report card, proof of insurance, birth certificate, school bus pass).

How do I renew my library card?

  • Bring in the expired library card.
  • One proof of residency, ownership of property, or ownership of a business is required to renew a library card and the documentation provided must include the person’s name and street address (see above list).
  • Children: Only a parent or legal guardian may renew a library card for a child.  To renew the card, the parent or guardian must present his/her own identification.  In addition, the child must be present to renew his/her library card.

What if I lose my library card?

  • If the lost library card has expired, there is no charge to obtain a new one.  If the card hasn’t expired, a fee will be charged to replace it.
  • To apply for a replacement card (regardless of whether it has expired or not), one proof of residency, ownership of property, or ownership of a business must be shown and the documentation provided must include the person’s name and street address (see above list).
