Volunteer Opportunities

Attend Library Programs
Attend any teen program at the Library and receive one (1) hour of service per program attended.

Summer Reading Club Helpers
Summer Reading Club Helpers assist the Youth Services Librarians in registering families for Summer Reading Challenges, logging reading for patrons, handing out prizes, making craft packets, and helping with Library events throughout the summer. Earn one (1) hour of community service per hour served.

Cards for Your Community
Volunteers entering grades 7-12 will make cards for hospitalized children, senior citizens, isolated elderly community members, soldiers, and/or veterans. Earn one (1) hour of community service per five (5) cards written. You may submit pictures of up to fifteen (15) cards per month for a total of three (3) hours of service.

Book Paramedics
Volunteers will go through children’s books page by page to look for any damage and return them to Youth Services staff members for review. Earn credit based on the amount of time spent looking for damage for a total of two (2) hours per visit.

Monthly Writing Prompt
Each month we will post a new writing prompt for volunteers to respond to. Responses should be about 300-500 words and can be emailed to Miss Tanya (tsuarezmatos@longbeachlibrary.org opens in a new window). In your email, please indicate if you’d like your writing shared (with credit or anonymously) on our social media/website/newsletter. Earn two (2) hours a month.

Teen Book Lists
Volunteers can compose lists of twenty (20) books based on provided themes. These lists will primarily be used to help us create book displays for teens in the Library. Some lists may be used to create theme-based bibliographies or book recommendations. Earn one (1) hour per list. You may submit up to three (3) lists a month for a maximum total of three (3) hours.

If you have any questions, please e-mail Miss Tanya (tsuarezmatos@longbeachlibrary.org opens in a new window).
